ISP sponsors contests (complete with cash awards) for students engaged in policy advocacy and their faculty mentors. Applications for the Katharine V. Byers BSW Award and the Bruce S. Jansson MSW Award can reflect activities targeting policy change at the local, state, or federal levels, while the Robert L. Schneider Dissertation Award is reserved for those whose doctoral work is focused on state-level social policy research.
We also have a faculty research award on Teaching Effectiveness in Policy.

Description of Awards
Bruce S. Jansson MSW Award and Katharine V. Byers BSW Award - $500 each
Full- or part-time BSW and MSW students are eligible to apply, along with their faculty mentors. This is a chance to be recognized for your efforts to influence or advocate for a local, state, or national social policy or a piece of state or federal legislation. There is a special emphasis on anti-racist work and work of Black, Indigenous, and People of Color. There will be one BSW winner and one MSW winner – groups are welcome to apply.
Robert L. Schneider Doctoral Dissertation Award - $1500
This award is for current PhD students whose dissertation research addresses some aspect(s) of local, state, or federal policy and its impact or implications for social work practice or clientele. All doctoral coursework and all comprehensive/oral/qualifying exams must be successfully passed by the application deadline. The dissertation must be in progress and not yet completed at time of application. There is a special emphasis on anti-racist work and work of Black, Indigenous, and Scholars of Color.
Faculty Research on Teaching Effectiveness in Policy - $500
This award recognizes research published that contributes to the scholarship of teaching and learning regarding policy analysis and practice. There is a special emphasis on anti-racist work and the work of Black, Indigenous, and Scholars of Color.
